On Thursday, August 20, 2015 I went to Hotel Indonesia Kempinski to have a luxury lunch at Signature Restaurant. Hotel Indonesia Kempinski was celebrating it 53rd anniversary and they made a unique theme for their restaurant titled "Five Foodie Islands in Five Weeks at Hotel Indonesia" and I had a chance to taste Bali plus Lombok food. I wasn't alone, because I was accompanied by my friend and there were a quite a lot other bloggers who already sat and talked to the Chef Ketut Sumerata, who made all of the Bali and Lombok menu. I chose to eat the food first before I took my chance to know more about the food from the master himself.
They set the table with a touch of Indonesia's cultural and heritage just like their theme and it really delivered to us as guests. I could hear the traditional instrument music from Bali and it made me felt like I was in a Bali restaurant and took me back to the time when I was in that beautiful island for the next hour. Besides Bali and Lombok food, there were also another food from other countries but I chose to just eat Bali and Lombok food because it was my main objective. So my friend and I were looking for Bali and Lombok food and we were very enthusiastic with what Signature Restaurant had for us.
There were about 10 kind of menu from Bali and Lombok, and of course the champion itself was there. It was no other than Ayam Betutu. There was also sate lilit, sate ayam keriting, bebek goreng sambal cung sekuh, mie goreng Bali, nasi goreng Bali and many more. Some foods were similar like Java, so I didn't put it on my plate, because I wanted to taste the authentic foods from Bali and Lombok. Even actually the base of the spices of Indonesian food were kinda the same.
So, here we go... Let us get to the main point. Honestly, I was expecting the champion which ayam betutu had it craziness of spicy. I was ready to let out my tear as a sign that I enjoyed it even I couldn't stand with spicy food. However, the champion wasn't really stand out. It wasn't spicy at all and the color was different from the original ayam betutu. Maybe the chef had to adjust the taste and color to the hotel and the other guests especially the foreigners, but it is not ayam betutu if it isn't spicy and green because of green chillies. Too bad. Nasi goreng Bali was absolutely delicious. I was blown away with the art of the taste and after taste. I could feel the spices and the aroma was still in my mouth even I had swallowed it. It was really Bali and really Indonesian food. Over all, it was a nice food with various tempting menu.
